I came to the computer lab this morning to work on some Microsoft modules. Before I got working on my course load, I went to www.taxact.com to file my income tax. It took a little while but I was able to file both my federal and state taxes. I did pay to file my state tax - $14.00 but they took that amount out of my refund. Both my federal and state income tax returns will be sent directly to my checking account. Before I left the house this morning I had called another very well-known income tax preparation company, no names mentioned, and their starting price was $88.00. I do believe that I made a better financial choice by going with www.taxact.com this morning.
Now, last year I went to the IRS site and chose one of the FREE links they offer. You actually leave the IRS site and go to independent tax preparation companies that provide their services online for free. However, I am going to re-file my 2006 income tax with www.taxact.com - I like their online service! They even have a quality assurance aspect (called Alerts) that will walk you through the finished return and pinpoint areas that need corrected or reviewed.
I feel that this is a definite way to save money. The lab manager sent her return in via e-filing online and had it back her refund back in five business days! It went directly to her bank account. If you decide to give it a try...let me know if you liked it.
